A NOTE FROM OUR FOUNDER
Dear fellow person suffering from the negative effects of addiction,
Hi, first, let me introduce myself. My name is Sherry White, and I'm a member of a club no one wants to join, that of being a family member of someone who has battled addiction. My family was first impacted by addiction in 2009. I have seen members of my own family suffer and grief management. I have experienced firsthand the heart-breaking fall-out that impacted our entire family. Everything from the initial trauma, problems in school, job losses, incarceration, overdoses, relationships-breakdown, public humiliation and judgement, expensive rehabs, suicide attempts, and the list could go on and on. In searching for help for my own family members, I found it nearly impossible to obtain affordable access to recovery services in far north-western Kansas. Here at High Point, we believe no one should ever be denied access to services because of their financial situation. That's why we make our services available to everyone, no matter what their financial capacity is. (Read the bottom part of this page to see how we're able to offer this incredible opportunity!) Over the years, I have met many other families who have experienced the same struggles. And now with not only the opioid crisis, but also the worst mental health crisis the world has ever seen, the need for these kinds of services has increased exponentially, so I decided to start a new non-profit agency to bring long-term recovery services to our communities. I began with participating in mental health focus groups all over northwest Kansas to hear what others thought the gaps in services are here. I also spoke to healthcare professionals, law enforcement agencies, schools, churches, county attorneys, and addicts and their families. I researched many different recovery philosophies and programs before selecting the ones we use at this agency. Committed to only utilizing evidence-based programs, I selected the Twelve Step and SMART programs for our clients who battle substance abuse themselves, and the CRAFT program for families of addicts. We believe addiction doesn't just destroy the physical body, but also the mind and soul, leaving you feeling helpless and even hopeless. Our unique service delivery plan not only treats the physical body via your personal individual treatment plan, but also includes caring, supportive advocacy services to support you emotionally, as well. We also realize that many of us rely heavily on our higher power to bring serenity and calm in the midst of active addiction, relapse, and even into long-term recovery. We're excited to include a small chapel and indoor meditation garden room in our facility for your use. Serenity looks different for everyone. Whether it's lighting a candle and praying, writing in a journal, yoga, listening to soft music, or just sitting quietly alone listening to the water fountain, we have a place that will calm you down and bring you a little peace so you can re-energize. You can sit alone, or a recovery advocate is happy to sit with you, if you prefer. Knowing that addiction doesn't just stop at the county border, I included the service delivery plan 9 far northwest Kansas counties in our service delivery area. Our unique 3-prong approach (individual, family, and community) is sure to enhance your unique recovery journey. So check out this site, and you'll learn what sets our agency apart from any other agency in Kansas! Trust me, whether you are an individual suffering with addiction, a family member trying to support a loved one fighting addiction, or a community organization, employer, church, or club, we have services for you! Our entire program is specifically unique to only our agency, and it is one I wish would have been in existence when my family was struggling with addiction. We will be working hard to end the stigma attached to addiction by bringing hope and healing to western Kansas!
Remember RECOVERY IS POSSIBLE...if you're surrounded by caring, non-judgmental people who will be your biggest cheerleaders, and provide a wide range of the right recovery resources to support your journey from being in active addiction, to sobriety, and into long-term recovery!
We're going to turn the IMPOSSIBLE into POSSIBLE!
Sincerely,
Sherry White, Founder and Executive Director
